13th Convocation
The 23rd of April 2008 was an epoch
making day for the Assam Institute of Management as the
institute added another batch of fi fty-six young, talented
and dynamic management graduates to the existing list of
endowed alumni. It was the day of the 13th Convocation of
the institute to confer the Post Graduate Diploma in Business
Management (PGDBM) held at the Pandit Tirthanath
Sharma Memorial Sabhaghar, at Old University Colony. Dr.
Amarjyoti Choudhury, the former Vice Chancellor of Gauhati
University was the Chief Guest and Dr. N. K. Choudhury,
ex-Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University and AIM Governing
Body Member presided over the programme. The Assam Institute
of Management can boast of the time management factor for
all its events. The 13th Convocation was no different. The
programme started sharp on time with the Academic Procession
constituting the graduating students, the faculty and the
distinguished guests, entering the auditorium. This was
followed by playing of the Jatiya Sangeet. The ceremonial
lamp was lit and the invocation recited. Shri Shantikam
Hazarika, Director, welcomed the gathering and presented
his Report. He presented the graduating students who were
conferred the Diplomas by Dr. N. K. Choudhury.
The Diploma certifi cates were distributed to the graduates
by the Chief Guest. They were then given Dikshanopadesha
from the Upanishads by Acharya Krishnakant Puranik, Principal,
Asom Ved Vidyalaya. The graduating students then took an
oath to aver their loyalty to their country, their profession
and their conscience and to uphold the values and duties
embodied by the institute in them.

Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury
then awarded the Gold Medals to Miss Mallika Sharma for
outstanding academic performance and Miss Dhritikona Ghosh
for the Best Project. This year we introduced two new awards:
for the Best All-Rounder and Best Summer Project. Sri Debajit
Roy bagged both the awards.
Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury,
in his Convocation address, stressed on the importance of
management and professional education in the present dynamic
environment. In his Presidential address, Dr. N. K. Choudhury
pointed out the importance of ethics and the application
of the Dikshanopadesha in day to day practices.
The programme ended with the offering of the Vote of Thanks
by Prof. Suren Taklukdar, Controller of Examinations and
singing of the National Anthem. The Academic Procession
then marched out of the Hall. The tea that followed saw
the guests, the AIM fraternity, the graduating students
and their proud guardians sharing pleasantries in a most
congenial environment. The placement record of the Assam
Institute of Management is getting mileage with the transition
of time and the institute is witnessing more and more companies
coming for placement. The average starting salary of the
graduating batches has also increased over the years. We
wish the outgoing batch all the very
best in life and hope that their two years in the AIM would
be the most important value addition in their lives. May
God be always with them.
