on Alumni get together
Date : 7th July 2007
Venue: Assam Institute of Management, 7th Floor East Point
Tower, Guwahati - 21
Alumni get-together was held on 7th July 2007 at 6 PM.
Altogether 16 alumni participated in the event. Considering
the schedule of the alumni, this time the meet was organized
on a Saturday evening, at 6 PM. A large number of alumni
had expressed their willingness to attend the meet. Many
of them had even confirmed over phone and e-mail that they
would participate in the get-together. But unfortunately
there was a heavy shower on that evening, which started
at around 5:45 PM and continued till 7PM. Due to flood,
many of them got stuck in their way to the institute, and
some of them had to drop their idea of participating in
the event. There were only 16 participants, though we had
expected more than 50 participants in the event.
Shri Pratul Ch. Kalita, Chairman alumni relations committee
welcomed the participants. He gave a brief description of
the alumni meet, held in the year 2005 and 2006. He also
described about the different activities, achievements and
future plans of the institute. Shri Kalita pointed out the
areas where our alumni can play an active role in achieving
institute's objective. He asked the alumni for their active
participation in Industry Institute Partnership Cell( IIPC)
of the institute.
Shri Shantikam Hazarika, Director of the institute said,
"It is the alumni, that build the brand of any institute".
He explained about the challenges the institute is facing
due to internal and external environmental changes. He urged
that the alumni must constantly update the institute about
the present skill requirement of the industries, so that
the faculty members can tune the syllabus and teaching methodology
to satisfy these needs.
Shri Migam K.K. Pegoo ( 2001-2004 Batch) Sales Manager
of Indian Oil Corporation(AOD) emphasised on promotion of
AIM Brand. He expressed his satisfaction over the institute's
initiative to publish AIMULET, the institute's quarterly
newsletter regularly. He said that the institute can take
best advantage of the presence of the major oil PSUs in
the state to generate funds.
Shri Pankaj Bezbaruah (first evening batch:1994-97) Field
Manager( NE region) of BASIX, shared his experience among
the participants. "From my experience of working with
IIM, XLRI graduates very closely, I can tell you that AIM's
course is no way inferior to that of those institutes, and
that is why I never feel inferior to them", He said.
Shri Dipankar Bhattacharjee ( 2005-2007 Batch), Management
Trainee of Berger Paints, said that the institute should
try to make its presence felt in the national level. The
institute should also try to attract applicants from states
other than North Eastern region.
Shri Manish Agrawal (2005-2007 Batch) Management Trainee
of ACC Cements, suggested that the institute should try
to be more media savvy. " Our institute organizes so
many events, conducts so many seminars but seldom we get
response from the media.", he regretted.
Shri Jitendra Achit Chutiya ( 2003- 06 batch) of Gup-Shup
FM said about the increasing demand of management professionals
in the FM radio segment. He requested to include the business
aspect of FM radio channels in the course curriculum of
the institute.
Shri Shantikam Hazarika, Director and Shri Pratul Ch. Kalita,
Chariman, Alumni relations committee, responded to the queries
of the participants. They also urged the alumni to frequently
visit the institute's website ( www.aimguwahati.edu.in)
and suggest changes/improvement they feel necessary. Also
any news about alumni that is worth disseminating ashould
also be brought to the notice of the alumni coordinator.
We still don not have information about many of our alumni.
The existing members of the alumni association may try to
keep us updated about the same. Alumni in organizations
outside the NE region may also help in placement by giving
requisite information to the institute about vacancies,
contact person etc. All the participants felt that there
is a need of organizing alumni get-together more frequently.
It was decided that in the Month of December, 2007 the committee
will organize another get-together.
The get-together ended with the vote of thanks from the
director of the institute.
